Call for Abstracts/Papers
Agricultural systems involve various components that interact in a complex manner to produce food and other materials required for sustaining human life. Understanding the various components and their interaction can provide key insights necessary for improving agricultural productivity, availability, access and consumption of nutritious foods. Issues such as climate change, pests and disease out breaks and their effects on agriculture, food and nutrition security can be better understood and managed for improved systems. The advances in ICT and GIS provides versatile and robust tools that can facilitate manipulation and visualization of large pool of data leading to better understanding of the agricultural systems. Whereas this has been realized and exploited in other parts of the world, limited attention has been given to this important subject for Africa. The symposium therefore seeks to bring together multidisciplinary teams from agriculture, bioscience, data science, ICT and GIS among others to examine this important subject for Africa.
The VizAfrica 2018 Symposium aims at providing a platform for researchers, agriculturalists, data scientists, information scientists and industry experts to share their results in relation to big data visualization in Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Security with special attention to the Africa context. In addition to this, it will provide a way of networking and collaboration among stakeholders to ensure sustainability, quality and efficiency.
During the First VizAfrica 2018 Visualization Symposium to be held on 20th and 21st August, 2018 there will be a special session on Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Security. Within the broad theme of “Advancing Multi-disciplinary Data, Information and Scientific Visualization for Strategic and Sustainable Development”, this session seeks to provide an opportunity for scientists and other stakeholders to showcase and discuss how to utilize data to increase agricultural productivity and enhance food and nutrition security in a sustainable manner.
Scientists working in agriculture, food and nutrition security are therefore invited and encouraged to submit abstracts for presentation. The abstract may highlight the role of data, information and scientific visualization in improving agriculture, food and nutrition security. Abstracts must be submitted for consideration using the online submission form. The abstract should contain the aim(s), methodology, results, discussion and conclusion. They should include the title, the name(s) of the author(s), affiliation, mailing address, e-mail address and telephone number(s). Authors should also state their preference for oral or poster presentation. Successful applicants will be informed by the conference committee.
When preparing a paper of VizAfrica 2018, authors are encouraged to use the LaTeX or Word template, which is downloadable from the symposium homepage. The standard paper length is 2 pages, 1 page at a minimum and 4 pages at a maximum, with an A4-sized PDF file, when using the template. The LaTeX template for submission is available on this link, and the Word Template is available here
